Abstract

Purpose of the Study: This paper examines the competencies and talent systems needed to support effective bancassurance in Africa.

Methodology: It uses an integrative desktop literature review of academic, professional, industry and institutional sources, analysed through human capital theory and the ability–motivation–opportunity framework.

Findings: The synthesis indicates that bancassurance requires combined insurance, banking, digital, customer-service and compliance capabilities; technical knowledge must be supported by ethical communication; training transfer depends on coaching and workplace opportunity; retention and succession protect relationship knowledge; and education–industry partnerships can align learning with role requirements. These are thematic review findings, not new statistical estimates.

Recommendations: Organizations should define role-based competencies, connect continuing development to coached practice and service-quality measures, integrate recruitment, performance and retention systems, and collaborate with professional bodies and educators to maintain relevant standards and curricula.
