Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between project complexity and risk management effectiveness in Kenya.

Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries.

Findings: The study on the relationship between project complexity and risk management effectiveness in Kenya delved into the intricate interplay between these two crucial factors. Through comprehensive analysis and empirical research, it was revealed that there exists a significant correlation between the complexity of a project and the effectiveness of its risk management strategies. Projects characterized by higher levels of complexity tend to pose greater challenges in terms of risk identification, assessment, and mitigation. Moreover, the study highlighted the importance of adopting tailored risk management approaches that are specifically tailored to address the unique complexities inherent in each project. Findings underscored the necessity for project managers in Kenya to recognize the dynamic nature of project complexity and to implement proactive and adaptive risk management practices to enhance project success rates.

Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy:  Complexity theory, contingency theory and resource dependence theory may be use to anchor future studies on assessing the relationship between project complexity and risk management effectiveness in Kenya. Promote the adoption of integrated risk management approaches that account for the multidimensional nature of project complexity. Advocate for the incorporation of risk management principles into regulatory frameworks governing project planning and execution across sectors.
