Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the climate change policies and international cooperation in Uganda.

Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries.

Findings: Climate change policies and international cooperation have become increasingly vital as the global community grapples with the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change. Findings indicate that while significant progress has been made in formulating policies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change, there remains a critical need for enhanced international cooperation to effectively address this global issue. Key findings suggest that successful climate change policies often involve a combination of mitigation strategies, such as transitioning to renewable energy sources and implementing carbon pricing mechanisms, along with adaptation measures to build resilience in vulnerable communities.

Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: Game theory, institutional theory and transnational advocacy networks may be used to anchor future studies on assessing climate change policies and international cooperation in Uganda. Strengthen institutional mechanisms for facilitating multilateral negotiations and enhancing transparency, accountability, and trust among parties to international climate agreements. Advocate for ambitious and equitable climate policies that prioritize the needs of vulnerable populations, promote social equity, and advance climate justice principles.
