Abstract

Purpose: The study highlights the need of Nepalese private schools to develop the capabilities of information communication technology in their organization to acquire, analyze and use of the data. This study aims to examine relationship between IT infrastructure capabilities, IT human resource capabilities and IT capabilities of Nepalese private schools.

Materials and Methods: The research design employed in this study is a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. A structured questionnaire survey was used to collect necessary information from four hundred private schools of Bagamati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces of Nepal who independently involved in this study. Unit of information were principals, coordinators and administrative staff. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the relationship between IT infrastructure, IT human resource and IT capabilities. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze IT infrastructure and challenges faced by Nepalese private schools to exploit their IT capabilities.

Findings: The findings of the study revealed that IT infrastructure capacity and IT human resource capacity have positive relationship with IT capabilities of Nepalese private schools. Nepalese private schools have sufficient IT infrastructure. Majority of Nepalese private schools are poor in IT Human Resource Capability. lack of skilled human resource, high operation cost, delay on repair, ignorance of stakeholders and misuse of IT Infrastructure by their employee are the challenges faced by Nepalese private schools to utilize their IT capabilities.

Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: Resource base view and enterprises resource planning are the basic theories which governs the information technology. Information technology can enhance the competitiveness of educational institutions and informed decision is a key for success. Technological literacy among the school leaders and user-friendly IT software should be the concern of practitioners. Policy makers should encourage to exploit IT capabilities through training, tax rebate of IT equipment and digitalization on education system.
